"Moonstruck": Gabagool, Lobsters, and One Big MOON!
Alright, folks, scottscreens here, and I just re-watched Moonstruck (1987). I'm gonna say it: Cher deserved that Oscar! Seriously, what a performance. The whole movie is just... chef's kiss. Loretta is so wonderfully flawed, and her transformation throughout the movie is amazing. "Snap out of it!" indeed! I love when she goes and gets the crazy red dress and does her hair all wild... you go, Loretta! Honestly, that whole 'making yourself look good' montage is just prime entertainment. And Nicolas Cage? Hoo boy. "I lost my hand! I lost my bride! Johnny has his hand, and his bride!" His dramatic outbursts are comedy gold. The way he looks at the moon while yelling... just legendary. But it's not all just yelling and lobster dinners (though, can we talk about that lobster scene?!). There's a real heart to the story, a genuine sense of longing and connection. I swear, every Italian family in Brooklyn acts like that. It's a good portrayal of the culture without being cartoony. My favorite part, and honestly, the moment that made me decide to make a post about it, is when, right at the end, grandpa is like, "La bella luna!" and everyone is finally happy and things are making sense! It's such a great moment. He is so happy and it's a perfect ending. I'm sure other people love other parts more. I thought Cage was kinda hot in it... don't judge me lol. Anyway, if you haven't seen Moonstruck, do yourself a favor. It's a classic for a reason. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go find a bakery that makes rainbow cookies. And I will definitely go get a steak, and cook it myself, to celebrate a wonderful, dramatic movie.
