Overboard (1987) - Hear me out... it's kinda great!
Okay, okay, before you all jump down my throat, I know 'Overboard' ain't exactly 'Die Hard' levels of action. But hear me out! I caught it on TV the other night, and man, Kurt Russell is just SO good in it. I mean, the dude sells the whole 'single dad struggling to make ends meet' thing, and he's hilarious. And Goldie Hawn plays the spoiled brat to perfection. No, there aren't any explosions or crazy car chases (sadly) but the whole premise is just so ridiculous it works! The part where he convinces her she's his wife and mother of his four unruly boys is pure gold. Plus, there's a certain charm to the small-town setting. The boat scenes are pretty cool too, in a non-explosive way. I liked the shot of her falling overboard, probably no stunts there, but it looked cool. I know, I know, the whole 'amnesia leading to a fake family' trope is kinda messed up when you really think about it. But it's a comedy! You gotta turn your brain off a little. The kids were pretty good with their comedic timing, and the ending is predictable but satisfying. So, yeah, 'Overboard' isn't gonna win any awards for groundbreaking cinema... but it's a fun, feel-good movie with some seriously great performances. Plus, Russell and Hawn are just magic together. What do you all think? Am I the only one who secretly loves this movie, or am I preaching to the choir?
