Bad Taste: So Bad It's...Still Bad, Actually
Alright, alright, so I finally caved and watched Bad Taste. I know, I know, everyone says it's this cult classic, low-budget splatterfest. Fine. I watched it. And honestly? I'm kinda underwhelmed. Yeah, the gore is… something. The scene where Derek's literally fighting himself, slicing himself up after that fall, is undeniably memorable for its sheer audacity and how ridiculously cheap it looks. But does over-the-top gore automatically make a movie good? I'm not convinced. Look, I get the humor. The alien vomiting… whatever that was, was pretty gross-out funny. And the whole premise is undeniably bonkers. But the acting? Painful. The pacing? Erratic. And honestly, the low budget, while part of its charm for some, just made it feel… sloppy. It's like they had a cool idea and then just threw everything at the wall to see what stuck, and a lot of it landed in the wrong place. I feel like a lot of y'all are giving this movie a pass just because it's considered a 'classic'. Maybe I'm missing something. Maybe it's one of those 'you had to be there' kind of things. But honestly, I've seen student films with better production value. It's not as groundbreaking or genius as people make it out to be. It's more of a novelty. A fun, messy novelty, sure, but still a novelty. Am I alone here? Is anyone else secretly thinking this movie is massively overrated or am I just doomed to be a contrarian forever? Let me know.
