Okay, so...Bad Taste. Anyone Else Horrified But Also Kinda...Intrigued?
So, I know I usually talk about family-friendly stuff, and, uh, Bad Taste (1987)...definitely isn't that! A friend recommended it, saying it was 'so bad it's good.' And honestly? She wasn't wrong. The plot is insane – aliens from Crumb's Crunchy Delights land in New Zealand to turn humans into fast food. I mean, WHAT?! My husband walked in during the chainsaw scene (if you've seen it, you KNOW) and almost walked right back out. I felt like I should cover my eyes, but I couldn't look away! I'm trying to figure out who the director is, but it's difficult. I'm pretty sure it's a Peter Jackson movie though. The effects are so cheesy and amateurish, but there's this weird charm to it. Like, you can tell they were just having a blast making it. The whole 'Derek' character, especially when he gets half his brain blown off and staples it back together, is just...memorable, in a deeply unsettling way. I think I might have nightmares about that. Okay, real talk: I wouldn't recommend this to just anyone. It's gory, it's gross, and it's definitely not for kids (obviously!). But if you're looking for something completely bonkers and over-the-top, and you have a strong stomach, then Bad Taste might be up your alley. Just...don't say I didn't warn you! Seriously, how did they come up with this stuff?!
