"Mannequin" (1987): Hear Me Out, It's Not Entirely Terrible

Okay, okay, before you all jump down my throat, I'm not saying "Mannequin" is some forgotten cinematic treasure. But I re-watched it recently, and I gotta admit, there's something... charmingly awful about it? Everyone always rags on it for being cheesy and predictable, and yeah, that's fair. But I think people miss the point. It's supposed to be dumb! It's an 80s fantasy rom-com, what did you expect, Bergman? Andrew McCarthy is peak awkward, and Kim Cattrall is... well, she's Kim Cattrall playing a mannequin brought to life. I'm not entirely sure her performance reaches 'high art,' BUT the 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now' montage is undeniable. Also, Mesmer, the flamboyant security guard, played by Meshach Taylor, is a comedic genius. I'd honestly watch a spin-off movie just about him and his adventures at Prince & Company. It'd be better than half the superhero garbage we get today. And the whole "artist finding his muse" thing, while cliche, hits differently now in the age of AI art and NFTs. Is Jonathan's relationship with Emmy any weirder than our current obsession with virtual influencers? It's all bizarre, but hey, at least "Mannequin" has a sense of humor about itself. Maybe I just have a soft spot for bad movies, but I'll defend this one any day. It's a guilty pleasure, sure, but a pleasure nonetheless. Tell me I'm wrong, I dare you.
