Adventures in Babysitting: "Don't you move, don't breathe, don't do ANYTHING!"
Okay, so I was just rewatching "Adventures in Babysitting" (1987) and man, this movie is just pure 80s gold. Seriously, who didn't want to be Chris Parker, even when things went sideways? Elisabeth Shue absolutely KILLS it. I mean, "I'm baby-sitting! It's what I DO!" Even when everything is crashing down around her. My favorite scene has to be the blues club. Sara thinking she's seen Thor, Brad's whole crush thing with Chris, and just the sheer awkwardness of it all, culminating in Chris having to BELT OUT the blues? Comedy perfection. And then the ending with the mobster and the Playboy mansion...its just so many crazy things all at once. I feel like every time I watch its, I notice something new! I will say though, the whole "Garo's Auto" thing is kinda dark when you think about it. But hey, it's the 80s - gotta have that gritty edge, right? I do think the writing is strong because even the ridiculous situations feel...almost believable? Or at least entertaining. Maybe its the solid perfomances by everyone involved. All in all, if you need a dose of 80s nostalgia with a healthy serving of "what the heck is going on?!", definitely give "Adventures in Babysitting" a watch. Just… maybe don't try any of their babysitting techniques at home. "Hang in there, baby!" and happy watching everyone!
