Au Revoir les Enfants - anyone else think it's like a French 'Lord of the Flies'?

Okay, so I just re-watched 'Au Revoir les Enfants' after like, a zillion years. Man, that ending STILL gets me. Serious gut punch. I remember seeing it in high school and just being completely floored. But this time around, something different struck me. Anyone else get a weird 'Lord of the Flies' vibe from it? Not in the savage island sense, of course. But the whole boarding school setting, the little power dynamics between the kids, and especially the way Julien (Gaspard Manesse) is kind of this spoiled, privileged kid who kinda gets a dose of reality... It felt like a French, much more tragic, version of that whole "loss of innocence" thing. And obviously, the historical context of Nazi-occupied France adds a whole other layer of horror that Golding never touched. Especially that scene where Julien rats out Joseph (yes, I know it was an accident!), only to immediately try to retract it. Talk about a moral turning point. It's not just about him being a kid, it's about the fear that starts to creep into that little community. Anyway, just curious if I'm the only one who sees this connection... or if I'm just seriously reaching, lol.
