Hulot's Last Ride? Trafic Thoughts
Just finished watching Jacques Tati's *Trafic* and, woah. As a guy who appreciates a good visual gag, this one's right up my alley. Hulot trying to navigate that crazy camper van through, well, *everything* was pure gold. You know how it is, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." Ferris Bueller knew what was up and Hulot? He was *living* it, even if "it" was a chaotic series of mishaps. That border crossing scene? Hilarious. The sheer absurdity of the customs officials poking and prodding at the Altra's gadgets; it's almost like they're filming a documentary about how silly modern life is. I'm telling you, Tati was a genius at observational comedy. It kinda reminded me of that line from *The Graduate*: "I want to say one word to you. Just one word… Plastics.” Except here it's, like, "Gadgets." Seriously, how many pointless gizmos can you cram into a car? Altra dared to ask. I gotta admit, parts of it felt a bit slow, even for a Tati film. There's less overt humor than in *Mon Oncle*, I think, and a bit more... commentary? Still, the ending was perfect. Hulot, ever the optimist, finding joy in the simplest thing after all that madness. It's like, "Houston, we've had a problem here," but, you know, Hulot-style. Is it Tati's best? I dunno, maybe not. But it's definitely worth a watch if you appreciate his style and love visual comedy. Definitely worth your time. Anyone else seen it? What did you think? Maybe you'll agree with this quote from the movie *Tropic Thunder*, "I don't read the script, the script reads me." This movie definitely gave a read.
