Radio Days - Anyone else think this is SUPER underrated?
Okay, so I just watched "Radio Days" (no idea who directed it, tbh, lol) and I'm kinda OBSESSED. Like, it's not some HUGE blockbuster or anything, but it's just...charming? I really loved how it showed the contrast between the family listening to their radio dramas and then cutting to the actual radio stars being totally wacky and dysfunctional. I thought that was genius. I especially liked the scene where they're all gathered around listening to "The Masked Avenger" and then bam, cut to the studio and it's just a bunch of people yelling and making weird sound effects. It really pulls back the curtain on all the 'magic'. And the whole story about the girl whose brooch gets lost and then someone finds it and writes a song about it? My heart! It reminded me of how interconnected everyone felt before the internet and whatnot, you know? But the thing that REALLY got me was the New Year's Eve scene. It was both funny and kinda sad at the same time. The rich people at the Copacabana with all their fancy clothes and worries, and then the family just huddled around listening to the same broadcast but experiencing it in such a different way... it made me think about how we all interpret things so differently. Did anyone else find that scene particularly impactful, or am I just being overly sentimental, lol? Anyway, I'd love to hear what you guys think! Especially if you appreciate a movie that's more about the feeling of a time period than a super complicated plot. Seriously, why isn't this movie more talked about?! Is it just me?
