Maurice: Anyone else fixate on the Scudder rowing scene?

Okay, so I'm Hannah, and I've watched "Maurice" like, a zillion times (no shame!). Every time I catch something new! This time, it's the scene where Maurice is watching Alec Scudder rowing. There's this intense focus on Scudder's physicality, all muscle and sweat, and the way Maurice is practically devouring him with his eyes. It's so raw, especially compared to the repressed stuffiness of Clive. Like, you know in that moment that something is shifting in Maurice, right? I'm just wondering if anyone else gets totally sucked into that scene? The symbolism is so obvious, but it still hits me hard. Does anyone else feel like James Wilby's acting during that scene is especially good? He conveys so much unspoken need and yearning, it's almost painful to watch. Like, he wants to be Clive, but he needs Scudder. Also, a slightly different topic, but how much do you think Clive actually knew about himself? Did he repress it so hard that he was genuinely convinced he was completely heterosexual? Or was it more of a social performance for him? I'm just curious what everyone else thinks--it's such a complicated relationship, and I'm obsessed with trying to understand it all. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but that's what happens when you watch a film as many times as I have LOL.
