Opera (1987) - Okay, what was UP with that ending?!

Okay, so I just finished watching "Opera" (1987), and WOW. Like, visually, it was stunning. The director, whoever they were, knew how to make a creepy movie. I was genuinely squirming in my seat during some scenes, especially anything involving the ravens shudder. The whole concept of the killer forcing her to watch the murders? Super messed up. But, I gotta ask, am I the only one who felt like the ending was... abrupt? Like, they wrapped it up almost TOO neatly. I mean, she's traumatized for life, obviously, but suddenly she's a farm girl? With the lizards? And the killer is... just gone? Did I miss something? It felt like a totally different movie in the last five minutes. I was expecting some kind of twist, or maybe the killer would crawl out of the pond or something, but nope. Happy farm life, I guess? Also, did anyone else find the killer's motive a little weak? Like, "I love you so I'm going to murder everyone you know" is a bit extreme, even for a horror movie. I get that he's supposed to be a deranged fan, but it just felt kinda... underdeveloped? Maybe if they'd given him a slightly deeper backstory, it would have landed better. Still, good movie, though. Definitely not one to watch before bed, LOL! Seriously, though, what the heck was up with the ending? Tell me I'm not alone in thinking it was weird!
