The Hidden (1987): Underrated 80s gem?? Need to know what YOU think!

Okay, folks, I recently watched "The Hidden" (1987) pretty much blind. All I knew was it was an 80s scifi-ish thriller, and I am ALWAYS down for that. I totally dug it! The whole premise is so bonkers -- an alien parasite causing normally upstanding citizens to become completely depraved and violent? Sign me UP. But what really got me was how they handled the two leads. Kyle MacLachlan as Agent Gallagher (I guess he's an alien too but not evil?) and Michael Nouri as Detective Beck were a surprisingly great pairing with awesome chemistry. What I'm dying to know is, does anyone else think this movie is seriously underrated? I feel like it gets lost in the shuffle with other 80s action/sci-fi flicks. Especially the scene where the family guy robs the bank and then blows it up AND the car chase sequence is so over-the-top! So good. But the ending felt a little rushed, maybe? Am I alone in thinking this movie deserves more love? And I'm also curious about the direction. I couldn't find much about the director, Jack Sholder, but he did some work on "A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge" which is not my favorite elm street to be honest. Is "The Hidden" his peak, or did he do other stuff I should check out? Spill the beans, please! I'm really hoping it's not just some guilty pleasure I'm overhyping in my head! Let's talk about it. What were your favorite scenes or moments? Did you find the premise as compelling as I did, or did it fall flat for you?
