OMG, The Gate is still freakin' creepy!
Okay, so last night me and the usual crew (hi Sarah, Liam, and Jess!) decided on a throwback horror night and landed on 'The Gate' (1987). I hadn't seen it since I was, like, WAY too young, and I forgot how genuinely unsettling it is! Those little demons...shudder. Seriously, practical effects FTW! They are so much creepier than any CGI I've seen lately. Specifically, the scene where Glen's having that weird dream sequence after reading the heavy metal lyrics backwards? SO disturbing. And Terry, with his obsession for metal and that totally 80s computer setup? Love him. Honestly, the whole vibe of the movie is just perfect. It's got that Amblin-esque 'kids-on-an-adventure' thing going on, but with a seriously dark, heavy metal edge. I kept expecting E.T. to pop out, but instead, we got demon hordes, lol. I have to admit, the acting is a little cheesy in places and the plot is pretty simple, but honestly, that just adds to the charm, right? It's one of those movies where you can totally suspend your disbelief and just enjoy the ride. Especially watching the kids fight off the demons with their homemade weapons. So creative! Made me think about my childhood and wishing I had some demons to banish from my backyard, haha! Overall, if you're looking for a nostalgic, slightly spooky, and totally fun horror movie, 'The Gate' is a solid choice. I'm still getting the heebie jeebies thinking about that eyeball in the wall though! Eek! 👻
