Demonic Denim: A Fashion Emergency in "The Gate"
Okay, so I finally watched "The Gate" (1987) and, honestly, the special effects hold up way better than I expected! Like, those little demons are genuinely creepy, and the stop-motion is kinda charming in a grungy way. But, you know me, I'm always checking out the lewks. And honey, there were some choices made. Glen (the main kid) has this whole '80s pre-teen vibe going hard. Think ripped jeans (naturally, because demons), band t-shirts that are probably older than I am, and a serious commitment to the side part. Terry, the cool older friend, is peak metalhead. We're talking denim jacket, patches EVERYWHERE, and that hair! I'm actually kinda jealous of his hair. Though, I'm not sure even the most hardcore headbanger could pull off fighting actual demons while simultaneously looking like he's about to audition for a Whitesnake video. What really got me though was Alexandra. Bless her heart, she's trying. But that oversized, floral sweater in the climax? Girl, no. You're battling the forces of evil, not going to brunch with your grandma. I get it, it's the '80s, and sweaters were a thing, but maybe something a little less… flammable when you're dealing with hellfire? Seriously, a leather jacket would have been both more practical and way cooler. Just saying! Overall, the movie was a fun, spooky romp, but someone needs to stage an intervention for Alexandra's closet. Just my two cents!
