Almodóvar's Law of Desire: Obsession, melodrama, and that iconic fire scene 🔥

Okay, cinephiles, let's talk Law of Desire. I finally got around to watching it, and wow. Just... wow. Almodóvar's direction is so unapologetically bold, right? The way he uses color, especially red, is just screaming passion, danger, and well, desire, duh. The whole movie feels like a fever dream drenched in saturated hues. I'm kind of obsessed with how he visually represents Pablo's emotional state. Like, those close-ups of his face when he's struggling with obsession over Antonio – pure directorial genius. And Carmen Maura as Tina? Trans representation in the 80s that actually worked. She's heartbreaking and fierce all at once. The scene where she recreates her childhood trauma? Gut-wrenching. Speaking of Antonio, played by Antonio Banderas, I have some mixed feelings. He's obviously meant to be this embodiment of raw, untamed desire, but sometimes I found him a bit...much? Like a cartoon character dialed up to eleven. But then again, that's kind of Almodóvar's whole vibe, isn't it? Exaggerated emotions, operatic drama. It kinda works, even if it occasionally borders on being a little ridiculous. And can we talk about that fire scene? The burning bed? Talk about symbolic! It's such a visually arresting moment, completely encapsulating the destructive power of unchecked desire. Maybe a bit over-the-top, but effective. What did you guys think of the ending? I'm still processing it. Was it a cop-out? Or a darkly comic resolution to all the madness? Tell me your thoughts! And okay, maybe the plot is a little convoluted, but the emotional core is what really stays with you. Definitely gonna be rewatching this one soon to pick up on everything I missed. It's messy and brilliant, just like life, I guess.
