The Principal (1987): Dudes, Did Anyone ELSE Love This Insane Movie?

Okay, so, I was up way too late last night (again) and stumbled across "The Principal" with Jim Belushi. I'd vaguely remembered seeing it as a kid... holy crap, it's even wilder than I thought! Seriously, a high school run by gangs, drug dealers, and like, EVERYONE is carrying a knife? Brandel High makes my own school look like freakin' Hogwarts. I mean, believability? Zero. Entertainment value? Off the charts! Belushi's character, Rick Latimer, is just... something else. He's got that whole '80s tough-guy thing going on, but also is weirdly relatable in his frustration at the total chaos. And James Olmos as the gang leader, "Knife" Mendez? Dude was genuinely menacing. But like, menacing in a way that only '80s movies could pull off. And Rae Dawn Chong, as April! She was smart but also kinda sucked into the chaos. So, I gotta ask, what did everyone else think? Specifically, did anyone else laugh when Belushi's character just starts wrecking shop and beating everyone up? Like, the scene in the gym where he's just going full-on rampage mode? I know it's probably completely irresponsible, but I couldn't help but cheer him on. Maybe because I was half-asleep, haha. Or when he chases the main bad guy in his car. Dude, what a badass. Anyway, yeah. Just wanted to see if anyone else appreciates this cinematic... experience as much as I do. It doesn't have a great plot, and maybe is a little bit offensive, but the shear over-the-top-ness of it all is something to see. It's a total B-movie gem, even if I can't defend the plot for anything.
