"Project X" (1987) - Ok, I'm Officially Devastated (But Also, Those Flight Suits...)

Okay, so I just watched "Project X" (1987) and...wow. I wasn't prepared. Like, I went in expecting some goofy '80s movie, maybe some lighthearted chimp antics, but I ended up tearing up. Seriously! But before I get all emotional again, can we talk about the costumes? Seriously, those bright orange flight suits that Virgil (Matthew Broderick) and the other guys wear are so '80s, it hurts. In a good way, though. I swear, I saw a similar jacket at a vintage store last week. But back to the actual movie... I was really struck by the way Virgil's relationship with the chimps, especially Helen, developed. And the fact that he was willing to risk everything to save them? That's some serious commitment. I mean, the scenes near the end when he's trying to expose what's going on... I was on the edge of my seat! And honestly, the whole thing with the chimps being exposed to radiation, ugh, it's just awful. It makes you think about how animals are treated, both then and now. While the plot is pretty serious, the movie also delivered some moments that are very characteristic of the late eighties. For example, the scene in the bar where Virgil and his friend drink is not crucial for the story but it adds to the feel of the eighties. Anyway, yeah, "Project X". Did it make me cry? Yes. Did it make me think? Also yes. And did it give me some serious '80s fashion inspo? You betcha! Definietly recommend it if you're looking to feel some feels and appreciate some retro looks. Just be warned, you might need tissues.
