Boo Brothers: Underrated Scooby Gem or Just Nostalgia Goggles?
Okay, so, full disclosure, "Scooby-Doo! Meets the Boo Brothers" was my JAM as a kid. Like, I probably watched it a million times on VHS. Shaggy inheriting a plantation? Ghosts? Country bumpkin stereotypes? It was peak Scooby-Doo for me. But I recently rewatched it, and, well, it's definitely... something. First off, the animation is SO '80s. Love it! And the whole 'haunted inheritance' plot is classic Scooby. But some of the jokes haven't aged amazingly well, especially with the whole confederate ghost thing. Still, the Boo Brothers themselves? Hilarious! Especially Flim Flam, that little con artist dude. He's so extra. And Scrappy is actually kinda tolerable in this one, which is saying something. There's a solid chase scene with the skeleton on horseback that STILL gets me hyped, lol. The whole thing is just so goofy and over-the-top. I think what I appreciate most about it now is the pure, unadulterated silliness. It doesn't try to be anything more than a fun, spooky adventure, and it succeeds. It's not gonna win any awards, obvi, and maybe my love for it is mostly fuelled by nostalgia, but hey, sometimes that's enough, right? Anyone else still have a soft spot for the Boo Brothers? Or am I alone in my '80s cartoon obsession? Let me know!
