Okay, I'm Officially a Totoro Convert!
So, I finally caved and watched 'My Neighbor Totoro'. I know, I know, I'm super late to the party. Everyone's always talking about this movie and I'm over here just now getting to it. I went in completely blind, didn't even know who directed it (some person named… Miyazaki? I'll look it up later). All I knew was it had something to do with a big fluffy creature. Honestly? I was expecting something kinda…eh. But wow, I was totally charmed! The beginning was cute, with the family moving into that old house. It felt so real, especially Satsuki and Mei exploring and finding dust bunnies (or soot sprites? whatever, they were creepy-cute). But then, when Mei finds Totoro sleeping in the hollow tree...that's when things got REALLY magical. The scene where Satsuki joins her and they're both waiting at the bus stop in the rain with Totoro? Seriously iconic. I get the hype now. I even teared up a little when Totoro gave Satsuki the nuts and seeds. So sweet! I think what really got me was how much the movie felt like childhood. Just pure, unadulterated wonder and imagination. It's not like, action-packed or anything, but it just captures that feeling of believing in magic. And the Catbus? Freaking GENIUS. Legit had me wishing I could take a ride! I did get a little anxious towards the end when Mei goes missing, but it all worked out in the end. Overall, I’m so glad I finally watched this! Yeah, it lives up to the hype. It's just so heartwarming and wholesome. Now I wanna watch all of Miyazaki's stuff...where should I start? Any recs?
