"Who Framed Roger Rabbit" - seriously, what WAS that?

Okay, so I just finished "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." People have been telling me to watch it for ages, saying it's a classic. I guess? It was definitely…something. I mean, the animation blending with live-action was REALLY cool, especially for 1988! Hats off to whoever figured that out. But the story was just…weird, right? Like, a cartoon rabbit is framed for murder? And Bob Hoskins is a detective who hates 'toons because one killed his brother? It felt like they threw every idea they had at the wall and just went with whatever stuck. Not saying it was bad, just...unexpected. My theory? I think Judge Doom wasn't just trying to destroy Toontown to build a freeway (which, okay, is already pretty messed up). I think he was trying to erase the joy from the world, like, literally. The Dip wasn't just about killing Toons, it was about wiping out the 'tooniness' inside everyone. And because Eddie stopped him, that's why he starts laughing at the end, and is kind of okay with the toons. I'm probably way off base, but the way it focuses on laughter and how Doom wants nothing to do with it made me think of that. Also, Jessica Rabbit is a cartoon. Why are people so obsessed with her? I mean, yeah, she's drawn to be attractive, but c'mon, she's ink and paint! The whole "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way" line is funny, but still... Get a grip, Eddie! Overall impression? Entertaining, but definitely not what I expected. Glad I watched it, and the technical achievement is undeniable. Although, I can def see why people would either love the movie or hate it. The 'tooniness' can be over the top. What did you guys think? Did anyone find a deeper meaning to this crazy movie, or am I just reading too much into it?
