Twins (1988): Okay, the Score Actually Slaps (Don't @ Me)

Alright folks, HughesReviews here, and I'm doing something I never thought I'd do: talking about the absolute cheesefest that is "Twins." Yeah, the Schwarzenegger/DeVito comedy. I know, I know, usually I'm all about the sweeping epics and dramatic scores, but the other night it was on TV and I got sucked in. And you know what? Randy Edelman's score is legitimately… good? Like, surprisingly good. It's got this bouncy, almost Elfman-esque vibe in places, especially during the initial scenes when Julius is like, being taught all this science stuff on that island. There's this playful energy throughout, even during the more slapstick moments. It's not some groundbreaking, Hans Zimmer level thing, but it perfectly complements the movie's tone. It knows it's a comedy, but it also gives the whole thing a little heart, you know? Especially when Julius is trying to protect Vincent or figure out what's what. I gotta give it to Edelman, he really understood the assignment. I mean, imagine a completely generic score for this movie... it would have been so much worse. Okay, so the movie itself is, uh... dated. Let's just say the '80s were a different time, and some of the jokes haven't aged super well. And DeVito's character is basically a walking stereotype. But I can't deny the odd couple chemistry between Arnold and Danny. It's dumb fun, plain and simple. Plus, like I said, the music keeps pulling me back in! So, yeah, if you're looking for a serious score deep dive, this ain't it. But if you want a guilty pleasure movie with a surprisingly catchy and well-crafted score, give "Twins" a shot. Just don't judge me too hard for admitting I lowkey enjoyed it. What are some other comedies with surprisingly good scores? Let me know!
