Twins: Arnold, Danny, and the Sheer 80s-ness of It All

Alright, who here remembers Twins (1988)? I caught it on cable the other night and, man, talk about a nostalgia bomb. Arnold and Danny DeVito as, like, super-unlikely twins... only in the 80s could you get away with that premise! It's pure Zucker Brothers-esque absurdity, even if Ivan Reitman was at the helm. The scene where they're both trying to woo Marnie and Cindy (Chloe Webb and Kelly Preston, RIP) at the same time? Comedy gold. And let's not forget the '80s hairstyles and fashion...it's glorious. Look, it's not Shakespeare. It's not even Ghostbusters (another Reitman classic, BTW). But it's comfort food. It's the kind of movie you can just throw on and laugh. The chemistry between Arnold and Danny is surprisingly good. DeVito's sleazy Vincent plays perfectly against Arnold's innocent Julius. I mean, who didn't wanna be as ripped as Arnold back then? Or at least have a funny, street-smart buddy like Vincent to help navigate life? I think what makes it work, even today, is the heart. Beneath all the silly gags and action sequences, there's a surprisingly sweet story about brotherhood and finding your place in the world. Okay, maybe I'm reading too much into it...but still! I'm not gonna lie, the plot gets kinda convoluted with the stolen money and all that, but it doesn't really matter. It's about the journey of these two wildly different guys connecting, and it's a fun ride. So, if you're looking for a dose of pure '80s escapism, Twins is still a worthy watch. Just don't expect anything too deep, and you won't be disappointed. Anyone else feel like grabbing a pizza after seeing it? I feel like I wanna relive my teen years now...
