Willow's Practical Effects Still Blow My Mind - Especially Those Trolls!

Okay, so I know Willow came out a while ago (1988!), but I rewatched it last night and man, the practical effects still hold up SO well. I'm David Kim (dkim_films, nice to meet ya!), and I'm always scoping out the tech side of movies. I was like, a kid when it came out, but even then, the trolls and the Eborsisk dragon freaked me out in the best way. Seriously, the detail on their faces, the way they moved... it had way more impact than some CGI monsters I see today. Specifically, did anyone else notice how good the troll transformations were? I'm guessing it was a combination of prosthetics, animatronics, and maybe some early morphing techniques (if they even had that back then? haha). I'd love to know more about how they pulled that off. Like, the scene where Fin Raziel is turned into different animals... that was great too, but the troll stuff felt so visceral. And the Eborsisk! Four heads breathing fire... come on, how cool is that?! I'd love to know if they used any miniatures or if it was all full-scale. On the sound design side, I gotta give props to the creature noises. The growls, snarls, and roars really added to the overall intensity. I'm guessing it was a combination of animal sounds and some electronic manipulation, but whatever they did, it worked. It gave those creatures real personality. What are some of your favorite special effects or sound design moments from Willow? Am I the only one who thinks it still holds up remarkably well? Maybe I'm just blinded by nostalgia, lol!
