Halloween 4 - Michael's back, but is it REALLY back?
Alright horror hounds, MikeCinema here! Just finished re-watching Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers. Look, I'm a HUGE fan of the original, and I appreciate they tried to recapture some of that magic after the III debacle (no Michael, WTF?!). Seeing Loomis blow up that sanitarium bus was a solid start, gets you pumped. And the concept of Michael hunting his niece, Jamie, made for a decent setup. But man, it just doesn't quite stick the landing for me. Yeah, Ellie Cornell as Rachel is a freakin' BOSS. She's tough, resourceful, and actually feels like a believable character who's trying to protect a kid in a crazy situation. Love her. And the practical effects are mostly pretty good for the time, some decent gore. But the actual stalking scenes felt...I dunno, kinda clunky? Michael just kinda walks around a lot. Not enough of that slow, methodical dread from the first movie. I did like the jump scare with the doctor in the hospital, that got me good, but overall, it's missing something. The ending with Jamie covered in blood? Okay, that was a pretty ballsy move. Sets up the next one (which...let's just say I have some STRONG opinions about, maybe for another post). But overall, H4 is a decent slasher flick, definitely a step up from III, but it's not nearly as iconic as the original. Good for a spooky October night, but don't go in expecting pure, unadulterated Carpenter-level horror. Solid rental--or stream these days--but worth owning? Questionable. What do you guys think? Am I being too harsh? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
