Throwback Thursday: Was "Cocktail" Actually Good?! (Spoiler: Maybe Not, LOL)

Okay, so I was flipping through channels the other night and landed on "Cocktail" with Tom Cruise. Remember that one? I thought, 'Hey, haven't seen this in ages!' and settled in. Brian Flanagan, fresh out of the army, becomes this hotshot bartender... It's pure 80s cheese, honestly. Like, the outfits alone are worth a watch. But let's be real, the whole thing is kinda...problematic now, right? The way they treat women is definitely cringe-worthy viewing in 2024. Coughlin is so creepy! And the plot? Don't even get me started. It's all over the place! He goes to Jamaica, gets rich, loses it all, blah blah blah. The 'chemistry' between him and Elisabeth Shue feels forced. Honestly, I was more invested in the bar tricks! Cruise is charming, no question, but the movie has aged like milk. I did find a new respect for mixologists though, all that bottle flipping takes skills! I guess it's more of a nostalgia trip than actual good cinema. Anyone else feel the same? Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky, lol! I still like some parts and it's fun to watch and laugh at, so I guess it's worth a shot. What do you guys think of it? Maybe I'm missing something and need to see it with new eyes!
