Dream Master: Underrated Elm Street or Just Plain Goofy?

Okay, so I just rewatched A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master and I'm seriously torn. On one hand, it's peak '80s Freddy. The one-liners are cheesier than a Wisconsin dairy convention, and the dream sequences are just WILDLY imaginative. Debating if the Pizza Face scene is disturbing or just...bizarre lol. But on the other hand, it kinda feels disconnected from the whole 'Dream Warriors' concept established in Part 3 which I absolutely loved. Kristen (Tuesday Knight) is supposed to be the new dream warrior, but honestly, she seems more of a conduit for Alice (Lisa Wilcox) to become the Dream Master? Like, the whole power-passing thing felt a little rushed and underdeveloped. But Alice's transformation into this kind of super-powered dream ninja is actually really cool! I'm a sucker for world-building with powers and how they effect a character. That junkyard scene where she confronts Freddy using all the skills she absorbed from her friends? Pure awesomeness. Visually, it's definitely the most ambitious of the series so far. The special effects, while dated, are incredibly creative and add to Freddy's nightmare logic in a way that some of the later films just didn't capture. Though, I will say, for all the visual flair, sometimes it feels like it prioritizes spectacle over genuine scares. So, yeah, I'm still wrestling with it. Is it a flawed but fun entry into the Elm Street canon, or a sign that the series was already starting to jump the shark? What do you guys think? What's everyone's favorite kill in this one? Gotta be the Roach Motel, right? Gross, but unforgettable!!
