Midnight Run: Surprisingly Funny (For a Movie About Criminals?)
Okay, so I just watched Midnight Run, and honestly, I went in expecting some serious action movie vibes. I mean, bounty hunter, Mafia accountant, FBI on their tail... sounds intense, right? But it was actually hilarious! Like, I was legit laughing out loud at times. Robert De Niro as Jack Walsh is just perfect. He’s all grumpy and world-weary, but you can tell he kinda grows to like Charles Grodin's character, Mardukas. I mean, Mardukas is annoying AF at first, with all his health food stuff and refusal to fly, but he’s also kinda endearing in a weird way. My favorite part was probably the whole train sequence with the FBI. The way they kept missing them, and then De Niro pretending to be an FBI agent to get away – classic! And the whole thing with the ID constantly getting confiscated by different people. Lol. I kept yelling at the screen. I also think the other bounty hunter, Marvin, (John Ashton) was a good foil and made it even more funny. He was so inept it was great. The director managed to weave together all the crazy circumstances and characters really well, it just flowed. I will say, at times it did drag a bit, especially in the middle. There were a couple of parts where I was just like, "Okay, get on with it!" And I wasn't a huge fan of the ending, it felt a little too predictable, but all in all, it was a really fun watch. I'd totally recommend it if you're looking for something that's action-packed but doesn't take itself too seriously. Rating? I'd give it a solid 7.5/10. Good enough for a re-watch when I'm bored! Plus, anyone know who directed this? Can't find it anywhere!
