Shoulder Pads, Sass & Stealing Dreams: Still obsessed with 'Working Girl'

Okay, confession time: I think I've watched 'Working Girl' at least a dozen times. And you know what? It STILL slaps. I just rewatched it last night and I'm getting all kinds of feelings. Melanie Griffith is pure gold as Tess McGill. That hair! That Staten Island accent! The way she just knows she's smarter than everyone else in that office. It's completely relatable, even if I've never rocked shoulder pads that could double as flotation devices. Harrison Ford, young and dreamy, is like, the perfect reluctant romantic interest. I LIVE for the scenes where he's trying to figure out if she's completely bonkers or a genius. And Sigourney Weaver? Oh, Carlyn. She's the villain you secretly kind of admire because she's so unapologetically cutthroat. Like, stealing Tess’s idea? Evil. But doing it with so much grace and power? Iconic. The whole movie is a masterclass (okay, maybe a slight overstatement but you get my point) in how to fake it 'til you make it. Also, the music is killer. 'Let the River Run' is a certified banger. But honestly, what gets me every time is how this movie is still so relevant. Women in the workplace still face these ridiculous power dynamics, even now. The whole thing is just a classic rags-to-riches story – or, more accurately, a sassy Staten Island girl who climbs the corporate ladder by any means necessary (and looks fabulous doing it!). One tiny (and I mean TINY) nitpick: I always wonder what happened to Tess's friend Cyn after she gets dumped. Did she keep doing her hair and makeup? Did she get a new boyfriend? Inquiring minds wanna know! Overall, if you somehow HAVEN'T seen 'Working Girl,' drop everything and go watch it ASAP. You won't regret it. But maybe hide your own brilliant ideas beforehand, just in case ;).
