Baron Munchausen: Terry Gilliam at his most... Terry Gilliam?
Okay, so I just finished watching "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" and... wow. Just wow. My brain feels like it needs a nap. I mean, I knew Terry Gilliam was out there, but this takes the cake, right? The sets, the costumes, Uma Thurman looking impossibly young... It's all gorgeous and completely bonkers. I'm still trying to figure out if I liked it, liked-liked it, though. Like, the scene where they're inside the giant's stomach? Hilarious and disturbing all at once. Very Monty Python meets Dante's Inferno, if that makes any sense. And Robin Williams as the King of the Moon? Absolutely unhinged. But then there are parts that just kinda drag, you know? Maybe it's just late and I'm rambling. So my question is: does anyone else feel like this movie is a beautiful, glorious mess? Like, you admire the ambition and the sheer audacity of it all, but you also kinda get why it bombed at the box office when it came out? Also, were they ACTUALLY trying to make Sarah Polley look like a porcelain doll or was that just my sleep-deprived imagination? Lemme know what you think!
