Return of the Living Dead Part II - Zombie Fashion Faux Pas?
Okay, so I just watched "Return of the Living Dead Part II" again (guilty pleasure, don't judge!). It's definitely… something. The plot is as cheesy as brain-flavored nachos, but honestly, that's part of its charm. What really got me thinking this time around, though, was the zombie fashion. Or, well, the utter lack thereof. Like, seriously, are all the zombies in Romero-adjacent universes doomed to wear the same tattered, hopelessly out-of-date clothes they died in? We can accept reanimated corpses craving brains, but can't we get one zombie with a little bit of style? Even Trash from the original had that awesome punk vibe going on! This movie just felt so… bland in comparison. Especially the zombie children – super creepy, yes, but also super beige in their clothing choices. Did no one die with a killer pair of boots or a cool leather jacket in this town? And that brings me to my question: Do you guys think the filmmakers consciously went for a super drab, almost depressing zombie look to contrast with the goofiness of the plot, or were they just phoning it in when it came to costume design? I mean, even little things like the color palettes they chose for zombie makeup seemed so washed out. Maybe it was a budget thing? Or am I overthinking zombie couture (probably, lol)? Let me know your thoughts!
