Okay, "Gorillas in the Mist" just wrecked me. Anyone else?
So I just finished watching "Gorillas in the Mist," and wow. Just wow. I knew it would be sad (I mean, come ON, it's about endangered gorillas!), but I wasn't prepared for the emotional rollercoaster. Sigourney Weaver as Dian Fossey was just... incredible. You could really feel her passion, her dedication, and even her frustrations building up as the film went on. I actually cried when Digit died; even though he was "just" a gorilla, his death felt profoundly unfair, especially the way it was shown. The poachers were so awful! There's this one scene, I can't remember exactly when, but it has Dian sitting amongst the gorillas, grooming one, and they're just so gentle and trusting with her. It made me wonder: What kind of person could harm these beautiful creatures? I just wish people in real life were as passionate as Dian was, and really fight for animal rights. But I'm also kinda conflicted? Like, was Dian a little TOO obsessed, maybe? Was she right to be so aggressive in her methods? I understand her heart was in the right place, but I'm wondering if there were other ways she could have approached things? I don't know, what did you guys think about that aspect of the movie? How did you feel about her character, her choices, and the ending?
