Elvira: Mistress of the Dark - Underrated Gem or Just Campy Fun?
Okay, international film buffs, Priya here! I've been re-watching some classics, and I had to bring up "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark" (1988). I know, it's not exactly Bergman, but hear me out! I think it deserves way more love than it gets. The plot, for those who don't know, is basically Elvira inherits some property in a super uptight town and shakes things up. It's pure camp, but with a surprising amount of heart, right? I'm curious what you all think about how it plays with those small-town values versus Elvira's, ahem, unique style. It's obviously over the top, but the contrast is so funny. Like, that scene where she accidentally makes the 'secret family recipe' super spicy? Hilarious! And that poodle? Pure gold. But seriously, do you think it's just a fun, silly movie, or is there something more to it about conformity and embracing your true self? And let's talk about the soundtrack, too! It's so perfectly cheesy-80s. The music during the pie contest scene is so fun! I felt it really amped up the intensity of the scene and had me laughing the whole time. Overall, I think its comedy has withstood the test of time and remains relevant. Do the jokes hold up for new viewers, or do you think it's a movie you kinda had to 'be there' for? Mostly, though, I just wanna know if anyone else is as obsessed with Elvira as I am? That hair! That makeup! That attitude! I mean, c'mon, she's an icon. Let me know your thoughts! Maybe I am just watching too many B-movies, haha.
