Okay, "The Serpent and the Rainbow" - Anyone Else Find This One Messed Up?

Hey everyone! Amanda here. So, I recently watched "The Serpent and the Rainbow" (1988). I know, I know, it's an older one, but I was browsing and the premise intrigued me. A Harvard anthropologist going to Haiti to find a zombie-making drug? Sounds perfectly spooky for a Friday night, right? Well... mostly. While I appreciate the atmosphere and Bill Pullman's performance, which I thought was solid, some of the scenes were seriously disturbing. I'm not usually squeamish, but the coffin scene and the voodoo rituals got under my skin. I'm wondering if it's too much for a family movie night, even with older teens. I mean, are we talking 'classic horror' or 'nightmares for weeks' level of scariness? I guess it depends on the kid, but I'm really on the fence about recommending it. Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive! But the whole concept of being buried alive and then controlled by someone else using voodoo is pretty horrific. Did anyone else find the movie unsettling or am I just a wimp lol? Also, anyone know anything about the accuracy of the anthropological stuff? I know it's just a movie but it makes you wonder...
