Pumpkinhead: Whoa, that escalated QUICKLY!

Okay, so last night we watched Pumpkinhead (1988). I'd never seen it before, but Mark was all like, "OMG, Ashley, you HAVE to see this classic!" So, we did. And...wow. I was NOT expecting that level of creepiness. Like, the whole thing starts with this tragic accident, right? Some dumb teens kill this dude's kid on a motorbike. Tragic, I felt bad for Ed Harley instantly. But then he goes and summons freakin' PUMPKINHEAD?! Dude, talk about overreacting! Seriously though, the special effects for Pumpkinhead himself were AMAZING for the time. He looked genuinely terrifying, all spindly and toothy. And the way he stalks those teenagers...brutal! My friends and I were literally jumping when he'd pop out of nowhere. I'm not sure what's scarier, the monster or the fact that Ed basically signed a deal with the devil. The whole movie is just a downward spiral from grief into vengeance, and it is a CRAZY ride! I did think it got a little slow in the middle, especially when they kept showing the witch. She was... fine? I guess? But honestly, anything that wasn't Pumpkinhead on screen wasn't as interesting. The ending was pretty heavy too. Ed realizes what a horrible mistake he made and, well, it's not a feel-good movie, let's just say that lol. Definitely a memorable horror flick, though! Not sure I'd watch it alone, but with friends, it was a blast... if you like being scared witless, that is!
