Maniac Cop: Bruce Campbell's Hair and That Stare Tho...

Okay, so I just watched Maniac Cop (1988) and I'm...conflicted? Like, the whole thing is pretty low-budget, honestly the direction feels a little all over the place. Buuut...there's something genuinely creepy about the main "bad guy" (I don't want to spoil anything!). It's that stare, right? The way he just looks at the camera is so unsettling, and the uniform just amps up the ick factor. Does anyone else find that the most effective part of the movie, even more than the kinda cheesy gore? And let's talk Bruce Campbell for a sec. He's...kinda wasted, isn't he? I adore Bruce, and he's got that classic Bruce Campbell charm, but his character felt a little bland. Though, I gotta admit, his hair was on point. Serious question – do we think Bruce was contractually obligated to have a perfect hairstyle in every movie he makes? Because it's distracting in the best way possible. I was almost worried about him during the scenes when it was raining! Anyway, back to the movie. What I found interesting was... the overall commentary of justice and police. To me, the plot revealed some of the real-world fears associated with the police system that still ring true today. The killer cop becomes a symbol of everything that can go wrong when power is abused. Was that the intention? I'm curious to hear what other people think because I'm still very confused. So, yeah, Maniac Cop. Not sure if I'd say it's a good movie, but it definitely left an impression. What were your highlights (or lowlights!), especially regarding the acting, and did anyone else think the female lead was actually pretty good despite the limited screentime? I'm all ears! Also, is it just me, or does the finale leave the story open for a sequel??
