Yo, 'Colors' Was Way More Intense Than I Expected!
Okay, so I finally got around to watching 'Colors' (1988) last night. I knew basically nothing going in, just that it was an 80s cop movie, and people mentioned gangs. Woah. This movie hits HARD. I was seriously on the edge of my seat the whole time. Like, the scene where they're driving through the barrio and just getting eyed down by everyone... you could cut the tension with a knife! Sean Penn and Robert Duvall were amazing as the cops. Penn is all hotshot and cocky, and Duvall is the old-school, seen-it-all kinda dude. The dynamic was awesome to watch, especially when they clash about how to handle situations. I gotta say, some of the methods they used felt...questionable, even for the 80s. But it felt pretty real, y'know? Not like some Hollywood fantasy cop stuff. What really stuck with me was the depiction of the gangs themselves. It wasn't just mindless violence (though there's plenty of that). You see the desperation and poverty that fuels it all. And the colors thing? Genius. So simple, so powerful. Also, I kept thinking how relevant the message still is. Makes you think, you know? I'm gonna be mulling this one over for a while, I think it was worth the watch. I don't know who directed it, but they did a killer job. Definitely gonna check out some other movies in this kinda vein. Any recommendations, hit me up!
