Wait, "Stand and Deliver" is based on a TRUE STORY?! Whoa. 🤯
Okay, so I just watched "Stand and Deliver" for the, like, fifth time (don't judge, I love a good underdog story!), and it STILL gets me. I know it's not horror, but it IS thrilling to see these kids, who everyone wrote off, just completely OWN the AP Calculus exam. But something I never really thought about before is that this is all based on a real guy, Jaime Escalante, and his students at Garfield High! That's insane! Like, did all that stuff really happen?! I mean, I know Hollywood takes liberties, but the whole thing with the ETS questioning their scores because they were all too similar? That seems... pretty wild. Did they really have to retake the test? And did they ace it AGAIN?! Seriously, if anyone's read up on the real story, I'd LOVE to know how accurate the movie actually is. Also, I gotta say, Edward James Olmos is phenomenal as Escalante. The way he just pushes those kids, and believes in them even when they don't believe in themselves? Seriously inspiring. And the scene where he's just drilling them on calculus concepts using street slang? Genius! But back to my original point... anyone have the real tea on what actually happened?
