"Compagni di scuola" - Anyone else find it brutally relatable?
Okay, so I just re-watched "Compagni di scuola" (1988) and wow, it still hits hard, right? For those who haven't seen it, it's about a high school reunion gone completely sideways. Lots of awkwardness, secrets bubbling up, and just that general feeling of 'we used to have so much in common, now we're basically strangers.' I think what gets me is how utterly unromantic it is. No one magically rediscovers their high school sweetheart and lives happily ever after. Instead, it's all uncomfortable truths and people trying WAY too hard to impress each other. I'm particularly thinking about the scene where the one guy, the one who was clearly the 'loser' back in school, shows up in the fancy car tries too hard to impress them with what he earned and with his wife, but everyone sees right through it. It's cringe but also kind of sad, you know? He clearly just wants to belong again. And then there's the whole subplot with the affair... messy, messy, messy. It feels so real, unlike other movies about the glory days. So, my question is, am I the only one who finds this movie brutally honest? It's not exactly feel-good cinema, but maybe that's why it resonates so much. What are some of your favorite, or most cringe-worthy, moments from "Compagni di scuola"? Did anyone find it hit home too much? I need to know if I’m just being overly sensitive cause I can relate to too many moments and cringe for these guys so badly!
