A Short Film About Killing... Did It Need To Be THAT Brutal?
Alright action junkies, I stumbled across something completely different the other night and I'm still trying to process it. It's called 'A Short Film About Killing.' Now, don't get me wrong, I can handle violence, especially when it's staged with some cool practical effects. But this... this was something else. No slick fight choreography, no explosions, just raw, ugly murder. The scene where Jacek strangles the taxi driver, Waldemar... man, that felt real. Like, uncomfortably so. I get that the director was trying to say something about the death penalty, and how messed up killing is, even when it's 'legal'. But did they really need to show every excruciating detail? I'm all for artistic expression, but there's a fine line between making a point and just being gratuitous, right? It's like, I appreciate the film trying to make me think about the value of life or whatever, but the violent scenes almost made me want to just turn it off. So, anyone else seen this thing? What were your thoughts? Did the level of violence actually enhance the film's message for you, or did it feel like overkill (pun intended)? Maybe I'm just getting soft in my old age, but this one really got under my skin. I was looking for a cool flick to watch. What I saw was a dark, disturbing film.
