As Tears Go By - Wah's got issues! (and I'm here for it)

Okay, so I just watched "As Tears Go By" (1988) and WOW. I went in expecting some gritty crime drama maybe with a touch of romance, but I walked away completely emotionally wrecked. Like, did anyone else feel that way?? I'm obsessed with Maggie Cheung (obvi) and her romance arc with Andy Lau's character, Wah, was so delicate in the middle of all the gangster stuff. I was rooting for them so hard, even though the whole cousin thing is, you know, a little weird to modern eyes - but this is a MOVIE! It felt so real. But here's my question: Fly. Ugh, Fly. This dude is a walking disaster. I get that Wah's loyal and feels responsible for him, but honestly, how many chances can one guy get?! Like, the pool hall scene where Fly's being all dramatic and starts a fight? I literally shouted at the screen – 'Wah, just leave him!!' Was I alone in wanting Wah to prioritize himself and his relationship with Ngor (Maggie's character), or do we think he has a legit obligation to Fly in this situation? Maybe I'm just a heartless romantic comedy girl who doesn't understand the bro code, haha. And that ending?! Don't even get me started. So brutal! I swear, I teared up more than "As Tears Go By" suggests, lol. I guess what I'm really asking is, did other viewers feel torn between Wah's romantic longing and his sense of duty? Was Fly just tragically flawed, or completely irredeemable? Also, side note... I keep seeing different directors listed for this movie online. Anyone know who actually directed it or what is going on?? This movie is great, I am just curious to see if the director did other stuff. Thanks!
