The Presidio: Sean Connery Being Sean Connery...But Is That Enough?

Okay, so I just finished watching "The Presidio" (1988). I gotta admit, I mostly watched it because Sean Connery's in it. I mean, the guy just oozes charisma, even when he's playing a grumpy old Colonel. The plot's pretty standard: a murder on a military base in San Francisco, and of course, the cop investigating it (Mark Harmon) used to be under Connery's command. They have history, naturally, involving a drunk driving case and a major disagreement. Cliche? Maybe, but who cares when you have Connery chewing scenery? What's kinda weird is Meg Ryan is Connery's daughter, and she gets involved with Harmon's character. The AGE GAP! It's not as bad as in some movies (cough, cough, Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood), but it's still noticeable. Some of the scenes between Connery and Harmon are pretty good, especially their arguments. The action is decent, nothing groundbreaking, but solid for an 80s thriller. There's this one shootout near the end that gets pretty intense, but honestly, it's Connery's presence that elevates the movie. I think the director (whoever it was haha) kind of realized Connery was the main draw and just let him do his thing. The mystery itself is okay, a little predictable, but the real entertainment is watching Connery be… well, Sean Connery. I'm not saying it's a great movie, probably a 6/10, but if you're a Connery fan, it's definitely worth a watch. Maybe I'm biased, but he just makes everything better, even a slightly generic plot! Plus San Francisco looks gorgeous as always. Anyone else seen this one? What did you think? Team Connery or Team "meh"? Let me hear it!
