Running on Empty: Is Danny's Piano a Cry for Help (or Something Else)?

Okay, rewatched Running on Empty AGAIN last night (I swear, River Phoenix just grabs me every time), and I've got this theory brewing. It's about Danny and his piano playing. We all see that it's his escape, his way to feel normal amidst all the running and hiding. But what if it's more than that? What if Danny's piano is a subconscious cry for help? Think about it: he's composing original music, complex stuff. He's pouring his heart and soul into these pieces. Isn't that a way of saying, 'Hey, world, I'm HERE! I'm talented, I'm creative, I'm MORE than just a kid on the run'? Maybe he's secretly hoping someone will hear him, recognize his talent, and somehow... help him get out. The way he shares his music with Lorna just feels like he is desperate to be seen. Okay, maybe 'cry for help' is too dramatic. Another thought I had -- what if it's a way for Danny to stay connected to the life he should be living? A life where he can be an artist, not some fugitive's kid. The piano represents stability, a future, all the things he can't have. It's heartbreaking, honestly. I'm probably overthinking it, but the way he clings to that music...it's definitely something more than just a hobby. What do you guys think? Am I totally off base here?
