Sleepaway Camp II: So Bad It's Good...Almost?

Alright, so I finally caved and watched Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers. I knew going in what to expect – cheesy '80s slasher fun. And yeah, it delivers on that front. But man, Angela Baker in this one is just...wow. Pamela Springsteen goes full camp, and it's fascinating to watch. I mean, the way she delivers those lines, lecturing teenagers about morality right before she offs them with increasingly ridiculous methods, is just gold. From a technical standpoint, the effects are...well, they're there. Let's be honest, they're not winning any awards, but they're practical (mostly), which I always appreciate. The sound design is pretty typical slasher fare – lots of screeching violins and stinger chords to punctuate the kills. I definitely chuckled more than I jumped, but hey, that's part of the charm, right? That dumpster scene? Yikes. But also, strangely effective! I'd love to know if they actually did any real takes or if it's all fake. Honestly, the best part for me was trying to figure out the logistics of some of these kills. Like, how did she even manage to set up that trap without anyone noticing? And the way the camera just lingers on the aftermath... It's all so over-the-top. I was almost disappointed when it ended, lol. Overall, Sleepaway Camp II isn't a good movie in the traditional sense. But if you're looking for some brainless, cheesy '80s horror with plenty of overacting and ridiculous kills, you could do a lot worse. Just don't expect anything resembling subtlety or, like...realism. It almost feels like a parody, but I think it's played pretty straight. It's like they tried to make it seriously scary, but accidentally ended up with something hilariously awful. Worth a watch for the sheer spectacle alone.
