Married to the Mob - anyone else catch this detail about the costumes?
Okay, so I've seen Married to the Mob (1988) like, a million times. Seriously. It's one of my go-to comfort movies. But I was watching it AGAIN last night (don't judge!) and I noticed something I hadn't before, and I wanted to see if I'm just late to the party or if anyone else picked up on this too. It's about the costumes, specifically Angela's. At the beginning, she's totally decked out in leopard print, gold everything – totally embracing that whole "mob wife" stereotype, right? But as she tries to get away from that life and start fresh, her clothes become simpler, more…normal. It's so subtle, but it's like the clothes are reflecting her internal change. Like when she starts working at the salon, her style shifts completely as she tries to run away from the mob wife life. Am I just reading too much into it, or is that a deliberate choice by the filmmakers? And then, Tony "The Tiger" is always wearing some crazy animal print outfit. That's pretty obvious and on-the-nose, but is it mirroring Angela's previous style? Anyone else notice how he literally embodies the life she's trying to get away from? I think it's cool. Anyway, just curious if other people caught these costume details and had thoughts...like, were they trying to tell us something even deeper with what everyone was wearing?!
