Married to the Mob is SO underrated! (Theory about Angela)
Okay, so I just watched "Married to the Mob" for like, the millionth time (lol, exaggeration... maybe). And I've been thinking, is Angela really as innocent as she seems? I mean, yeah, she's obviously repulsed by Frank's whole gangster thing, and she wants out sooo badly. But she's also kinda... good at playing the victim, right? The way she navigates Tony 'The Tiger's' advances, and how she uses the whole 'widow' thing to get what she needs (a new life, mostly) feels a little too smooth sometimes. My theory is that Angela is way smarter than people give her credit for. She may not be involved in the mob directly, but she's definitely learned a few things along the way. Think about that scene where she's at the motel, and she's all flirty with Mike (Matthew Modine) to get information about Tony. That wasn't just beginner's luck! She's got skills! Maybe Frank wasn't the only one with secrets. I'm not saying she planned Frank's murder exactly... but maybe, subconsciously, she knew getting rid of him was the only way to truly escape that life? It could be that she's just reacting to the situations and doing what she thinks is best, but I also think she's underestimated just how much she can manipulate those dumb guys around her. Which is funny tbh. I mean, who would expect that from Michelle Pfeiffer in a poofy wig? Anyway, just a thought! Anyone else feel like Angela is playing 4D chess while everyone else is playing checkers? And also, I thought it was directed by Jonathan Demme. Why does it say unknown? Maybe I am the manipulative one?!?!? LOL.
