Okay, but can we TALK about young Indiana Jones?! (Last Crusade thoughts)
So I finally got around to rewatching "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" and, while I love Harrison Ford as much as the next gal (total silver fox alert!), can we just take a moment to appreciate River Phoenix as young Indy? Seriously, that opening sequence is gold. It's like, a perfect distillation of everything that makes Indy, well, Indy. The hat, the whip, the righteous anger at art thieves… chef's kiss. And the way he gets that scar? Iconic! I feel like that whole scene should be required viewing for anyone who wants to understand the character. But beyond my River Phoenix crush, the movie actually holds up really well. Sean Connery as Indy's dad is just brilliant casting. Their bickering is hilarious and surprisingly touching. Like, the scene where they're tied back-to-back in that castle and they start working together is genuinely sweet. I love a good father-son dynamic, especially when it involves Nazis and the search for the Holy Grail. And Alison Doody? Girl was serving LOOKS the ENTIRE time. Definitely a fun femme fatale, even if she does switch sides a few times. Okay, actual question for everyone: Was anyone else confused by the whole 'three tests' thing at the end? I mean, I get it's symbolic and all, but the 'leap of faith' was just... weird, right? Like, how was he supposed to know there was a path there? And the whole 'choosing the right cup' ordeal seems kinda arbitrary. Don't get me wrong, it's a great climax, but I always end up scratching my head a little. Anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts on this gem of a movie. What are your favorite moments? And am I the only one who has a little crush on young Indy? Be honest!
