Last Crusade: The Indiana Jones Movie That Gets Me (Almost) Every Time
Okay, so, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I have a soft spot for this one, guys. I think it's because it does something none of the other Indy movies really do: it gives him a family. I mean, Sean Connery as Indy's dad? Casting gold, right there. I love the bickering, the 'he left when I was just a kid' drama... it all adds so much depth to Indiana Jones as a character. And let's be real, the scene where Indy has to choose the real Grail and remembers his father's words? Gets me choked up every. single. time. I know some people aren't huge fans, and yeah, it's definitely got its goofy moments (the tank scene IS a bit much), but I think it hits a really sweet spot between action-adventure and heart. Plus, it avoids the trap of Temple of Doom which kinda sidelined the female lead. I adore Alison Doody as Elsa, she is as treacherous and complex as she is beautiful. A true femme fatale. One little gripe: While I adore the ending with them riding into the sunset, it always felt a bit… conclusive? Like, where do you go from there? (Crystal Skull doesn't count lol). I always thought a minor cliffhanger would have been perfect. But still, warts and all, Last Crusade is up there as one of my favorite adventure movies, and definitely my top Indy flick. Fight me! Anyone else feel the same way? Or am I alone in my love for the Indy and Dad dynamic?
