Ariel's a Little Crazy, But I Get It. Mermaid Movie Thoughts...
Okay, so I just finished watching "The Little Mermaid" (1989). Yeah, I know, I'm late to the party. It's been on my list forever. Thing is... I have thoughts. Like, Ariel? Girl, you're a mermaid PRINCESS. You have it made! Singing Sebastian, Flounder being all supportive (if a little useless), King Triton's got that trident thing going on... and you're trading it ALL for some dude you saw ONCE? I get that Prince Eric is cute and all (totally had a crush on him when I was younger...), but seriously? Give a girl some logic! Ursula, though? Now that is a villain. Absolutely iconic. Sassy and evil and those eels! I was genuinely creeped out by Flotsam and Jetsam. Seriously, Disney knew how to do villains right back then. Also, that "Poor Unfortunate Souls" song? Banger. Straight up banger. I catch myself singing it in the shower, haha. And the whole "kiss the girl" sequence?? Classic. But also, like, Eric is kind of a dummy? He doesn't realize Ariel is the one who saved him? I mean, come on. She's legit mute and still making googly eyes at you! Pay attention, Prince Charming! I do love when she gets her voice back, though. Jodi Benson's voice is just perfect for Ariel. Makes me wanna be a mermaid, despite the whole losing-your-family-and-tail situation. Overall, it's a fun movie. Definitely brings back the nostalgia. I still think Ariel made a questionable decision, but hey, at least she got her man and some legs. It's a Disney fantasy, so whatever. Still humming "Under the Sea," though. That crab knows how to throw a party underwater for real. 7/10, would recommend for a chill night and some childhood feels.
