"When Harry Met Sally...": Beyond the Rom-Com Cliches

Okay, so "When Harry Met Sally..." (1989) Yeah, yeah, I know, rom-com. But hear me out! I think this movie holds up surprisingly well, especially if you look at its structure. It's got that interview montage thing going on, right? Those interludes with the older couples telling their actual love stories? Genius! It's not just fluff; it's like the movie is constantly checking its own pulse against real-world experience. It's subtle, but it adds a depth that a lot of films in the genre totally miss. And the pacing! Remember the scene at Katz's Deli? Peak Meg Ryan. But it's not just the fake orgasm (though, iconic, duh). It's how perfectly the scene is built, how the dialogue flows, and how Nora Ephron (who wrote the script) just NAILS the messy, funny reality of relationships. Billy Crystal is great too. Its like he's a jerk but we also still like him? I think that's hard to pull off. I think what I maybe appreciate most about "When Harry Met Sally..." is that it doesn't give easy answers. Harry and Sally are irritating, flawed people (like us!), which gets us asking questions. Can men and women really just be friends? I actually DON'T think the movie fully answers that. What do you guys think? Is it just a well-executed rom-com, or something more?
