Kiki's Delivery Service: Studio Ghibli Magic...But Too Neat?

Okay, so I finally got around to rewatching Kiki's Delivery Service and, look, it is Ghibli, so the animation's gorge and the music slaps. But... I'm wondering if I'm alone in feeling like it's almost too nice? Like, everything kinda just works out for her? I love the idea of Kiki struggling to find her place, especially with her magic fluctuating, but does anyone else find that her 'low points' aren't really that low? It almost feels like the movie doesn't want to let her REALLY suffer or be genuinely lost and alone. I mean, she loses her magic, sure, but it's like, right then and there, Tombo is waiting to be saved, and eventually she gets it back. Compare that to, say, Chihiro in Spirited Away, where the stakes feel so much higher and the challenges are way more intense. I guess I'm wondering if maybe it's just because Kiki's journey is more internal, but I still feel like something's missing. Maybe the book (which I haven't read yet, oops!) gives the loneliness and self-doubt more weight? And don't even get me started on the dub! Just kidding, I actually like the original dub. But is anybody else thinking there should be a more modern, 'grittier' take on it? Maybe I'm just crazy, but I think that'd be interesting. It would also be nice to see some more background stories for the side characters. I mean, we get a little about Osono, but what about the artist lady Kiki stays with? She seems kinda mysterious and cool! Thoughts? Am I being too harsh on our girl Kiki?
